Rules and Regulations

Dress Code

Dress code for students is the same as for the students attending public schools.  We discourage shorts when attending liturgy or when there will be some activity held in the church.  Hats or caps are not to be worn in building during class time and especially in the Church. No short or tight skirts will be allowed in the building as well as spaghetti straps or sleeveless shirts or blouses.  Children/youth that do not comply with the code will be asked to step put out of the classroom until parents bring appropriate clothing, but please note that students will be marked absent.

Sunday class – 1st year of attendance:  Students are expected to attend all sessions; including Mass. Students must attend 100% of all classes.  There will be a minimum of 2 excused absences per semester (i.e. a total of 4; 2 in spring and 2 in fall time).   Failure to do so will result in not being credited for the year.  If a student must be absent, parents need to call the Faith Formation Office at 281-931-1884, ext.28 as soon as you are aware of the absence or before class begins.

If a serious illness or family emergency requires multiple absences, please call and arrangements will be made with the director to make up classes. Students are expected to arrive punctually and stay for the duration of the session unless there is a written parental permission to leave, or the student leaves accompanied by the parent.  Three unexcused tardies will equal one absence.

If parents pick up children from the front office (usually 10 to 15 minutes after class has ended) they will be charged $5.00 per child.

Sunday class – year of sacrament preparation: Only 3 excused absences will be allowed.

Drop-off / Pick-Up of Children

Our first concern is the safety of children entering and exiting the building.

Grades 6th through 12th:

Students in these grades can walk into their classrooms without parents. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to bring them into the classrooms. NOTE: that we are not responsible if a youth does not make it to class, the fact that you allow them to walk into the building does not mean that they make it all the way to the classroom.  An adult is required to come and pick student from the classrooms unless it is noted in the registration form that they can walk or drive without adults.

Grades Pre-K through 5th:

Drop and pick up children in these grades in and from the gym’s side door.

ONLY people indicated in the forms will be allowed to take children.  Please note that no older siblings will be allowed to take younger siblings, unless they are named on the registration form. Right at the hour (11:30 or 1:30) doors will be locked.   If you come in late, enter through the main doors (by the office) and pick up a late pass. ID required for persons picking students.

Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco and Weapons

Possession, sale or use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco products or weapons by students at St. John Neumann is strictly prohibited. Students who violate this regulation may be subject to dismissal from the program. Students involved with drugs, alcohol or weapons may be referred to the proper legal authorities and parents contacted immediately

Willful damage or destruction of Faith Formation Building and or parish property, or damage or destruction of facilities by students, is cause for disciplinary action and possible dismissal from the program. The program requires that restitution be made by student(s) according to the terms determined by the Director.
