Stewardship of Prayer and Reflection

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” Notice, Jesus does not say,
take up “the cross” or “my (Jesus’) cross,” but rather “his [her] cross”— each disciple’s specific cross. How differently shaped and weighted each disciple’s cross is! An old story pictures a believer trying to exchange what seemed too heavy a cross, only to find every replacement even more impossible. Each cross, though seemingly too heavy, has been custom-designed for that disciple!

“El que quiera venir conmigo, que renuncie a sí mismo, que cargue con su cruz y que me siga”. Fijémonos que Jesús
no dice que cargue con “la cruz”, ni con “mi cruz” (la de Jesús), sino que cargue con “su cruz”, o sea la cruz específica de cada discípulo. ¡Qué diferente es la forma y el peso de la cruz que lleva cada discípulo! Una historia antigua describe a un creyente que trata de remplazar su cruz, aparentemente demasiado pesada, pero encuentra que cada remplazo es aún más imposible de cargar. Cada cruz, aunque parezca demasiado pesada, ¡ha sido hecha a la medida para ese discípulo!
